How to present the best product slide to an investor?

A great prototype slide will increase your chance of getting the investment! Yes, you heard it right. Even if you don’t have your MVP available, you still might have a chance to get the investment with a beautiful product slide. The real question is, how?

Hello again! Today, I will be discussing the importance of the product slide, how to create a killer product slide.

First, what is the product slide? It is the slide that comes after your solution slide. As I said in my previous article, you should never talk about your product especially in your solution slide because, you want the investors to become curious, to first imagine the market problems.

Imagine a salesman knocking on your door trying to sell you a Hoover, would he straight away be opening the box and giving you the specifications of the product? Of course, no! What he does is, seduces you with the hard times you are experiencing with the old school broom that it is tiring and time-consuming and then, tells you what the solutions should be, which is something that is time-efficient, easy to use, etc. Then he jumps to the conclusion which is the super-duper hoover that does this and that. So, you get the point, defining the market problems and solutions should be where you pitch your product. Let some imagination happen to the investor.

What should you put in the product slide?
This is also a very common mistake entrepreneurs do. You only have 3 minutes to pitch right? Why do you want to talk about your products for minutes? If you cannot define your product in a short tweet that is 140 characters long, that means you have a huge problem! Let me give you an example of how to define a product

“LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network on the internet”. This is the short summary of LinkedIn, the description.

“You can use LinkedIn to find the right job or internship, connect and strengthen professional relationships, and learn the skills you need to succeed in your career.”

And this is the use case. That simple. Is it hard for you to understand what LinkedIn does after reading this sentence? It first must lure you, that is what you must think. “How can I simplify my startup description, and leave a little bit of curiosity behind?” If you need help with this, just go on google and type, what is X (your competitor). Or contact me!

Now, you have your product/service/startup description, the next thing you will be needing is the screenshots. If you have a mobile app, get an android/iPhone mockup of a blank phone and use some of your app images on it. When exporting screenshots on your app, try to use the images that represent your startup, if it is a social media app, try to show a profile/message page. If it is a FinTech/Crypto startup, use the same logic and imagine the main value propositions of your startup, is it transferring cash? Buying crypto? Use those screenshots! In the last case, if you have a physical product, take professional photos with people using it!

You have created your startup description title, your photos and the last thing left is to write the product functions. When doing this, don’t write more than 4–5 bullet points and try to keep them a couple of words each. Remember, you want to keep it simple and make the investor a bit more curious. When stating your bullets, relate each of them with the solutions you are providing, for example:

- 7/24 crypto trading with 0.01 transfer fees
- Buy plane tickets with crypto instantly
- Transfer cash to your bank account in seconds

Write your Value propositions. Remember, these statements should be unique to you, your competitors should be doing the exact same things. What makes you unique?

In summary, a product slide should be your marketing slide. Simply designed, never text-heavy and it has to have some attraction! You can extend the product slide into two parts one as the information of the product, and second the current state if it is available for IOS and Android, etc.
